February 2016 newsletter
I have a feeling this year will be about collaboration, about being willing to make space to work with another or others for something better than any of us could do alone.
It’s pretty remarkable what transpires when we’re open to it. I often find myself with others, thinking, “How can we collaborate?” And then, within minutes we’re brainstorming. And then comes the tricky part of planning and follow-through. I’m discovering this part can be fun too; it just takes a bit of organization....
Like planning a party. I went to a party at an artist’s house in Venice a couple of months ago. I liked her art, and uncharacteristically, bought a small canvas. Meryl Leibowitz showed me a bigger piece, a man on a bike on the Venice boardwalk. It looks like morning, like so many mornings that we set up the booth there in the old days. Meryl captured something I hadn’t seen done well before: that moment when the sun’s drying up the last of the morning fog…and the simple sounds turn to a rumble before the cacophony of day.
After showing me how she captured so much with so few strokes, we spoke of the possibility of her hanging her art at Vital Hemp. So this month, we strip the walls of all the old vital art to make room for the art of Meryl Leibowitz.
If you’re in the area, please come this Saturday from 7-11 for an opening, featuring many awesome paintings of Venice bungalos, old trucks, abstract –scapes, and the live sounds of our vital house band, Melinda and the I Pretty Band, featuring accordion, drums and our very own bassist, Geoff Elsmore!!! Organic India Tulsi Tea, Humbolt Hemp ale, vino, Nutiva hemp treats and lots of good company!
Find the invitation on bottom right of our home page, here:
Plus, a free Vital Hemp t-shirt with any painting you take home.
If you cannot make it and have read this far, you can use the code VitalHEMPART to receive 25% off any purchase from 2/27 to 3/5.
As ever, thanks for being vital. I look forward to whatever ways we find to collaborate this year.
